Professional Summary

I am a 6th year Economics PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin. My research focuses on the functioning of energy markets, specifically as it relates to the policies which impact emissions and reliability. I am interested in applying the tools of industrial organization and structural estimation to these markets and develop a better understanding of the requirements of the energy grid of the future.

My job market paper (draft forthcoming) focuses on the role of capacity market payments to generators in New York and their impact on the industry’s dynamics and firms’ investment incentives. I use a structural model of entry and exit along with a simplified wholesale market model to show how these payments can act as entry barriers for renewables and the corresponding impact on emissions and reliability.
